Indian students in Canada have a better chance of becoming permanent residents.

If you are an Indian student studying in Canada, you have a better chance of becoming a permanent resident than students in other countries like the US. This is because Canada’s immigration system awards additional points to Indian students who apply for federal express entry under the Canadian experience class, provincial nominee programs, and federal skilled worker class. These extra points make it easier for Indian students to become permanent residents of Canada.
“The points-based system express entry system considers age, education, work experience, and language proficiency factors.

A regulated Canadian immigration consultant, international students who complete their studies in Canada have an advantage in obtaining permanent residency through the system. They earn extra points for their Canadian education and work experience. Additionally, some provincial nominee programs prioritize these students, offering them a quicker path to obtaining PR. International students who complete their studies at eligible Canadian institutions can apply for a post-graduate work permit in Canada. Depending on the type of educational institution they attended, they may be eligible to work in Canada for up to three years.

According to Harpreet Kaur, team leads at SPS Canada, having work experience can improve one’s express entry profile and increase their likelihood of getting a job offer from a Canadian employer, which could lead to permanent residency.

According to official data from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada, more than 226,450 Indian students went to Canada to study in 2022. This makes them the largest group of international students. Additionally, the number of Indian individuals who received permanent residency in Canada in 2022 increased to 118,095.

More Indian students are opting to study in Canada and successfully obtain permanent residency through various immigration programs. This could be due to the excellent quality of Canadian education and the opportunities for work and immigration after graduation. Additionally, changes to Canadian immigration policies and programs have made it easier for international students to remain and work in Canada after completing their studies.

Indian students who have at least a year of work experience in India and pursue a master’s degree or higher in Canada will have a good chance of making it to the express entry pool after completing their education and gaining one year of work experience in Canada. Canadian education provides valuable points to their eligibility.
Several intangible factors can have a significant impact on a candidate’s career. Co-ops and internships allow students to enter the Canadian labor force before completing their program and gain Canadian work experience. Employers highly value this experience and can improve their understanding of working in Canada. Additionally, creating a credit history can be helpful for international students to obtain mortgages from banks in the future. This can provide leverage for their profile. Indian students who complete their higher education in Canada can use the Canadian Experience Class route to obtain permanent residence status within two years after finishing their courses. The course duration will affect the time it takes to receive permanent residency. Students must apply for a work permit and work for a year in an occupational category permitted under the PR application process. It may take several months to prepare the application papers and receive a good score on the language examination IELTS. According to Ajay Sharma, president of Delhi-based consultancy firm Abhinav Immigration Services, it may take between two and four years before Indian students become eligible to apply for permanent residency under the Canadian Experience Class through the express entry pool.
